The holidays are among us and Visalia will be joining in all the holiday fun! Locals will again enjoy traditional events such as the Visalia Race Against Hunger, the Candy Cane Lane Parade and the Nutcracker Ballet, will you join be joining us this year?
On Thanksgiving morning thousands of adults and hundreds of kids gather in Downtown Visalia to participate in the Race Against Hunger. The Race Against Hunger is an event for families, friends, coworkers, schools, churches and more to come together to fight against hunger. This year marks the 13th anniversary of the Race Against Hunger which is put together by the Visalia Emergency Aid Council (VEAC) in an effort to provide food assistance for more than 1,100 families (including 2,500 children).
“The whole race atmosphere is one of family and community. It’s a mini-reunion for many as we see friends we may not have seen for years. [People] form teams, dress in costume and just enjoy the brisk morning event” Executive Director of VEAC, Liz Wynn, said. For more information: www.veac.org
The Candy Cane Lane Parade is Visalia’s main kick off event into the Christmas season and this year will mark the 72nd year of holiday cheer. Every year this event takes place the Monday following Thanksgiving, and this year is no different. The parade will take place November 27th at 7:00 PM in Downtown Visalia and will feature performance groups, schools, and as always a visit from Santa himself! Our newest holiday tradition, in it’s third year running, is Theater Arts Alliance annual production of The Nutcracker Ballet! The ballet is the story of a young girl, Clara, who is fascinated by the Christmas gift she gets from her godfather, Drosselmeyer. When she falls asleep she is sent into an adventurous dream filled with lands of snow, sweets, and flowers. Come see this traditional Christmas story at L. J. Williams Theater November 25 & 26.
